The Morning Altars Graduate Program 2024-25

*Enrollment closes May 31, 2024

The altars are impermanent but our community doesn’t have to be.

Let’s continue this community of practice.

Let’s keep learning and supporting each other as we bring nature, creativity, and ritual deeper into our lives and the world.

Even though our training is over, what if…?

  • What if you could keep being inspired by nature, art, and impermanence?

  • What if you could keep learning once a month from Day?

  • What if you could stay connected to the community throughout the year?

  • What if you could keep participating in deep listening, honest dialogue, and radical collaboration with other tender-hearted, earth-loving, creative, and wild souls from all over the world?

  • Imagine what’s possible if we sustained our “we!”

We already have the foundation of our community, of our practice, of trust with Day and one another — lets keep building upon it.

What’s Included?

Monthly Practicums + Making Sessions

  • Let's keep learning and creating together each month! Here’s how it works:

Every month, we will dive into a book or movie that explores themes like nature, creativity, impermanence, or wonder. While you're encouraged to engage with the material beforehand to enrich our discussions, it's completely optional.

The rhythm of our curriculum keeps things fresh and inspiring: for two consecutive months, we gather to discuss our selected book or movie.

On the third month, we shift gears and come together to make beautiful altars, channeling the insights we've gained from our readings into our creative practice. We will also share ways we've been continuing to bring this practice into our work with clients and communities.

See below for the Practicum Lessons curriculum and schedule.

Priority Access to In-Person Retreat

  • Our first-ever in person retreat will be held in the spring of 2025. Location TBD.

We’re doing it! This is an amazing opportunity to get off the screens and finally come together for our very first time with Day and other big-hearted graduates from all over the world.

Tim and Day are still working on the curriculum, logistics, and cost but think: Day teaches, you practice, we connect all in a stunning natural landscape.

Space will definitely be limited so members of the graduate program get priority access to secure their spot.

Graduate Space on Mighty

  • Our Mighty Network will have a space exclusively for graduates to continue engagement, share creations, stories, and networking opportunities.

Practicum Lesson Curriculum

2nd Thursday of every month from 5-6:30pm PT

  • Inspired by Elisabeth Tova Bailey’s book.

In "The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating," Elisabeth Tova Bailey shares her intimate observations of a snail that lives beside her while she is bedridden with illness. Through her delicate narrative, we learn about resilience, the significance of noticing small wonders, and the profound connections that can be found in the quietest moments.

  • Inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer’s book.

In "Gathering Moss," Robin Wall Kimmerer weaves together scientific expertise and indigenous wisdom to unveil the captivating world of mosses and their ecosystems. Her profound insights teach us about the interconnectedness of all living things, the power of patience and observation, and the profound lessons of resilience and reciprocity that nature offers, inspiring us to deepen our connection with the natural world

  • In this "Making Session," we will focus on the theme "Tending My Self," creating altars that reflect our commitment to self-care, rest, and rejuvenation.

  • Inspired by Linda Hogan’s book.

In "Dwellings," Linda Hogan masterfully intertwines personal reflection, indigenous wisdom, and environmental insight to reveal the profound connections between humans and the natural world. Her evocative narratives inspire us to recognize the sacredness of all life, deepen our respect for the earth, and embrace a more harmonious and reverent relationship with nature, enriching and transforming our perspectives

  • Inspired by Mary Oliver’s poetry.

In "Dreamwork," Mary Oliver's evocative poetry delves into themes of nature, personal transformation, and the human spirit. Her vivid and contemplative verses inspire us to reflect on our own journeys, find solace in the natural world, and embrace the profound beauty and wisdom that poetry can bring to our class.

  • In this "Making Session," we will focus on the theme "Tending My Relationships," creating altars that reflect our dedication to nurturing and strengthening our connections with humans and the greater-than-human world.

  • Inspired by Katherine May’s book.

In "Wintering," Katherine May offers a profound exploration of how we navigate life's challenging seasons through personal stories and reflections on nature's cycles. Her insightful narrative encourages us to embrace periods of rest and retreat, find resilience in the face of adversity, and discover the beauty and wisdom inherent in our own times of wintering, enriching our understanding and practices in the Practicum Class.

  • Inspired by Andy Goldsworthy’s movie.

In "Rivers and Tides," Andy Goldsworthy's mesmerizing documentary captures his ephemeral and intricate art created from natural materials, revealing the deep connections between art and the environment. His creative process inspires us to appreciate the impermanence and beauty of nature, encouraging us to find creativity and meaning in the ever-changing landscapes around us.

  • In this "Making Session," we will focus on the theme "Tending My Gifts," creating altars that celebrate and renew the gifts that we’ve been granted and recommit to giving them back to the world.

  • Inspired by Bill Plotkin’s book.

In "Soulcraft," Bill Plotkin offers a transformative guide to discovering one's true self through nature-based practices and deep inner work. His profound insights and practical exercises inspire us to embark on a journey of personal and spiritual growth, fostering a deeper connection to our inner selves and the natural world, enriching our exploration and practices.

  • Inspired by Martin Prechtel’s book.

In "The Smell of Rain on Dust," Martín Prechtel delves into the profound connections between grief and praise, drawing on indigenous wisdom to reveal how honoring our sorrows can lead to deep healing. His powerful and poetic insights inspire us to embrace the transformative power of mourning and celebration, enriching our emotional and spiritual journeys.

  • In this "Making Session," we will focus on the theme "Tending the Mystery," creating altars that honor the unknown and the wonder of life's enduring mysteries.

A Creative, Caring, and Wild “We”

When we stay connected and practicing, we can remember our connection with ourselves, with each other, and the Great Mystery.

Some of us graduated years ago. Others of us are graduating right now.
All of us know how special this community is.
How life-affirming Day’s teachings are.
And, the healing, joy, and inspiration that this practice embodies.

Just because the program has ended, doesn’t mean our time together has to.

Our Morning Altars community has always been a safe place to bring our creative wounds, vulnerable parts, grieving hearts, and disconnected selves as well as our buoyant playfulness, wild imaginations, and deep care for one another and our living world.

By continuing to gather as graduates, you can keep returning to a place that calls the best parts of you forward; that reminds you of your innate connection to the Earth; that inspires you to not just be creative but live creatively; and that encourages you to keep learning and growing with other creative, caring, and wild-hearted ones from all over the world.

Let’s keep gathering.
